Lighting for Trade Show Exhibits

Lighting for Trade Show Exhibits

  • Artful use of lighting can suggest almost any mood.
  • A spotlight can be used to a dramatic effect.
  • LED lights are not bright, but they are very energy efficient, durable, and long-lasting.
  • Accent lighting will help define and add texture to your products and images.

When considering lighting for your trade show booth, the choices range from subtle to show-stopping. Artful use of lighting can suggest almost any mood you wish and bring an added emotional component to your booth. The following are examples of the different types of lighting that can be used in your booth.

Types of Lighting

A performance light, such as a spotlight, can be used to dramatic effect by highlighting your flagship product during a demonstration with a highly focused beam of bright light. Some examples of this type of lighting are incandescent, fluorescent, and halogen spotlights. Fluorescent and LED lighting is energy efficient and long-lasting. Incandescent light is the most widely used type of lighting and can be found in a standard light bulb. It is more economical but not as energy efficient. Halogen light is a long-lasting type of incandescent light. Another type of performance light is a par can. These lights create a bright oval pool of light and are frequently used at rock concerts and can be used with smoke or haze machines to make the light beam visible.

The LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a SSL light (Solid State Lighting), meaning that the light is emitted from a solid object, rather than from a vacuum or a gas. LED’s produce white, blue, red, green lights using a cluster of individual lights but can generate light of other wavelengths depending on the desired effect. The lights are not bright, but they are very energy efficient, durable, and long-lasting.

Strobe lights and Gobo lights are also used to create special effects in a display. Gobo lights can be used to project an image of your company logo or any other message onto the wall or floor of your booth. They can also be programmed to project moving images or color onto a display. These lights are real attention getters and will help focus people’s attention on your booth.

Another way to highlight your display is to use accent lighting to help define and add texture to your products and images. Accent lighting is used to make an object stand out in a space. In addition to their usefulness as performance lights, spotlights can also be used as accent lights. Architectural or ambient lighting can be used in a similar way to bring extra depth and dimension to your entire booth or display.

Exhibit Weight varies depending on the packaging and the shipping method. Variables include but are not limited to:
  • Dimensional Weight vs. Actual Weight: Dimensional weight is defined as crate or case size. On most air shipments, the dimensional weight exceeds the actual weight
  • Portable Cases vs. Wood Crates or Molded Tubs (where applicable): Exhibit designs that require one wood crate would require multiple portable cases. Selecting one vs. the other affects the total weight (dimensional or actual).
  • Freight Carrier: LTL carriers (Less than Truckload) quote freight based on space used. UPS, FedEx, and air freight carriers quote freight based on either the dimensional or the actual weight of the shipment.
  • Freight Service Level (number of days): Service levels range from Same Day Delivery to Two Week Delivery.
For more information about exhibit weights and freight options, please contact your local exhibit representative.
Electrical, Cord, and Wire Management varies depending on the display and each exhibitor's requirements. When ordering your trade show display, consider the following electrical/wire management issues and discuss your options with an exhibit professional:
  • Inline vs. Island Displays
  • Lead Retrieval Devices
  • Computer and Monitor Cables
  • Demo Equipment
  • Overhead Lighting
  • Grommets and Grommet Placement in Counters
  • Overhead vs. Floor Power Supply
  • Flooring and Electrical Wiring
  • Options for Hiding Cords and Cables
  • Flat vs. Round Electrical Cords
  • Multi-Plug Outlets and Extension Cords
By reviewing your wiring options BEFORE you order your display, you'll save TIME and MONEY and ensure your exhibit exceeds your expectations and your installation is trouble-free.
